1. Why did you say yes to serving on the Leadership Charlotte Board, and what continues to inspire your support for the organization?
Leadership Charlotte will always be a defining milestone in my life. It launched me into a life of service and helped me find answers to questions I’d been wrestling with for years as a Charlotte native. I continue to support the organization because I want future leaders to experience the same growth, clarity, and sense of purpose that I gained through LC.

2. What’s your favorite Leadership Charlotte memory?
Celebrating my birthday during Opening Weekend with my class. The way everyone came together to make sure I felt celebrated is something I’ll never forget.

3. What advice would you give to future Leadership Charlotte participants?
Fully embrace each program day and show up ready to be present. The connections you build will be just as important as the lessons you learn. So, make the time to connect with everyone in your class.

4. What would you like to see Leadership Charlotte alumni get involved in and why?
I’d love to see LC alumni come together for visible, collective service projects and to take action on community issues that matter to Charlotte. Our shared experience and network have the power to make a meaningful impact when we show up together.

Name:  Steve Meier

Leadership Charlotte (LC) Class:  37

Title/Company: Steven T. Meier Law, PLLC

Hometown: Fanwood, NJ

Education: Denison/Valparaiso

1. Why did you say yes to serving on the Leadership Charlotte Board, and what continues to inspire your support for the organization?
I had always heard that the Leadership Charlotte Board was a “working” board – one where participation is both needed and valued. I have served on too many boards in the past that felt more honorary or token in nature. The opportunity to assist the leadership of this organization that I care so much about was too humbling to pass up.

2. What’s your favorite Leadership Charlotte memory?
The people and friendships.  I really value the personal, open nature of the LC community.

3. What advice would you give to future Leadership Charlotte participants?
To borrow a phrase: “Be a meaningful specific instead of a wandering generality.” It is not the purpose of LC to drive you to one particular cause or action but rather to encourage you to unlock that which is already in you.

4. What would you like to see Leadership Charlotte alumni get involved in and why?
I think that Leadership Charlotte could excel at the late high school level.  I believe that cultivating leaders at that level would serve everyone – the participants, Charlotte in general, and LC as a whole.
