Name: Gina Hoy
Leadership Charlotte (LC) Class: 38
Title/Company: PwC – Client Strategy Director
Hometown: Houston, TX
Education: BBA, New Mexico State University
Current personal or leadership goals:
I’m currently on assignment in the PwC Buenos Aires office, building a new team to support the US firm. I’ve been here since November 2023 and will be staying until June 2025. One of my key personal goals during this time is to significantly improve my Spanish. While I’ve made great progress, working in English during the day and speaking English at home with my husband has slowed my growth. As I approach the final stretch of my time here, I’m doubling down on my efforts to achieve the fluency I aspire to before June!
What advice would you give to current Leadership Charlotte participants?
Be present and actively participate in every session. Leadership Charlotte is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the issues and opportunities shaping our community. Don’t just listen—ask questions, share your perspective and challenge yourself to grow.
Build authentic relationships with the other participants. The people you meet here will be some of the most passionate individuals in our community. Make an effort to learn about their experiences and aspirations, as those connections can become long-term collaborations.
Be open to ideas and viewpoints that challenge your own. True leadership often involves understanding and valuing perspectives different from yours. Use this opportunity to deepen your cultural and emotional intelligence.
What’s a lesson that you learned through LC that has stuck with you and why?
Take what you’re learning and apply it. Whether it’s advocating for a cause, supporting an initiative, or volunteering, use this experience as a catalyst for positive impact in Charlotte. It can be overwhelming to know where to invest your time when you learn about so much need but just start!
What would you like to see Leadership Charlotte alumni get involved in and why?
I truly admire seeing Leadership Charlotte alumni actively engaging in community-driven initiatives that tackle critical local challenges like affordable housing and education. Witnessing the meaningful work alumni do to uplift and support the Charlotte community inspires me to remain dedicated and involved.
Favorite way to spend a weekend in Charlotte: On weekends, I love exploring new restaurants with friends and family, discovering unique flavors and enjoying great company.
Favorite nonprofit or community organization in Charlotte and why:
Supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters has always been close to my heart because of its incredible mission to empower and inspire youth. I first started volunteering with them when I was in college, and I was a Big for several years. I believe in the power of connection to help young people realize their potential and seeing the impact that BBBS has on the lives of children and their families motivates me to give my time and energy to such a great cause.
At the same time, food insecurity has always been an issue I feel strongly about. Access to nutritious food is a fundamental need, yet so many individuals and families face daily challenges in meeting it. I’ve seen how food insecurity can affect every aspect of a person’s life, from education to health, and I’m committed to helping those in need. I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank, Nourish Up and at several of Roof Above’s organizations and I’m always inspired by the staff at these organizations and their commitment to the clients they serve.
Both causes resonate with me because they remind us of the importance of investing in others—whether it’s through mentorship or providing essential resources. It’s about creating opportunities, building resilience, and helping others thrive.
