If you could describe your Leadership Charlotte experience in a few words or phrases what would they be?

A powerful learning experience about our city and its people.

What advice that you would you give to current Leadership Charlotte participants?

Build your life took kit by cultivating honest and inclusive relationships.

What’s a lesson that you learned through LC that has stuck with you and why?

I learned about how Charlotte is structured, how all is connected. This knowledge gave a sense of belonging and the base to start my involvement with other community boards and committees.

Favorite nonprofit or community organization in Charlotte and why:

Because of my own experience as an immigrant, I champion organizations focusing on education, particularly education for young immigrant children.  Therefore, I support LAWA (Latin Americans Working for Achievement) and the Charlotte Bilingual Preschool.

What do you hope to be doing (differently) in five years?

Since I am retiring, I plan to spend more time smelling the roses, enjoying getting to know new people in my own neighborhood, and spending more time traveling and visiting family and friends.

How has your life after Leadership Charlotte surprised you and why?

After my Leadership Charlotte experience, I discovered my real career passion! Two years after LC, I found myself enjoying my involvement serving on community boards and committees more than my corporate job. To my surprise, I changed careers and moved to the non-profit sector. My new career provided greater personal fulfillment.
